Any dysfunction of the butterfly shaped gland at the base of our neck is called thyroid problem. Basically there are three main types of thyroid problem.

Thyroid nodules:

A lump in the thyroid which is the butterfly shaped gland at the base of the neck.

Hypothyroidism:

this is the condition where the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone.

Hyperthyroidism:

This is the condition when the thyroid gland over produces the thyroid hormone.

The hormone which is produced by the thyroid gland influences all the metabolic process in our body. Thyroid disorders may range from small harmless goitre that needs no treatment to life threatening cancer. The disorders which are mentioned above may lead to uncontrollable and unpleasant problems. Sometimes they can be less harmful if managed and treated well.
